Genesis G70: where to buy?

If you live in Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Zionsville, Beech Grove, or any surrounding community, we encourage you to experience the Genesis shopping experience as it should be. As a standalone Genesis dealership, Genesis of Carmel offers unmatched comfort, amenities, and a level of service that many other Genesis locations can't provide. While it might be easy to just find the nearest G70 for sale, there are many reasons to go a little further for a better experience. Our exclusive focus on Genesis models means there's less competition for service and sales appointments compared to dealerships that also sell Hyundai. Plus, not every Genesis showroom is built the same. Our Genesis Premiere Showroom boasts a stylish atmosphere with an open layout designed for your comfort while you check out our Genesis models. We are proud to be the only premiere location within a 100-mile radius of Indianapolis, serving customers from various nearby areas. G70 interior

What is it like inside the G70: Seating, Cargo & Tech

Interior Design:   While we would recommend visiting your local Genesis dealership to see if the G70 is the right luxury model for you, our experts at Genesis of Carmel do have plenty of insight to share before you arrive. It's important to know that as a compact sedan, the G70 isn't the ideal Genesis model if you plan on consistently having adult passengers in the back. It's good enough for shorter trips with adults in the back, but we would recommend a larger Genesis model for your long road trips. If you are looking at the G70 in the first place, this is probably not a problem for you. The interior area reflects this with a functional design that allows you to maximize the performance of the G70 and includes plenty of comfort features as well. We love how deliberate Genesis was with the design features; the multi-function switches, new door and console trim patterns, air vents, cup holders, and even key FOB all make the driver's experience easier while still standing out as being stylish. Overall, the inside of the G70 feels exactly how you want a sporty sedan to feel, and it's one of the main reasons why so many are sold every year.

Genesis G70 interior updates

Interior Design Recap:

  • Great space for front passengers but not the best for adult rear passengers
  • Interior design features a functional layout that enhances performance
  • Includes many comfort features
  • Added multi-function switches, new door and console trim patterns, & updated key FOB

Technology:   The G70 offers all of the tech features that make a difference to your day-to-day life without a whole lot of gimmicky features that bloat the cost. The standard 10.25-inch infotainment screen might not be the largest on the market, but we don't find it to be lacking in functionality. The new touch-sensitive climate control screen is an improvement to the old system and is standard across all trim levels. We would strongly recommend at least going to the 2.5T Sport Prestige trim to get the Lexicon Premium Audio system, as it does make a difference. It also adds a wireless phone charger. The surround view monitor and head-up display features on the highest 3.3T Sport Prestige AWD model are nice-to-have features, but you won't feel forced to go up to that trim just to get them. Having said that, all of the models are reasonably priced compared to similarly specced-out luxury sedans.

Genesis G70 updates

Technology Recap:

  • 10.25-inch infotainment screen standard across all trims
  • Touch-sensitive climate control screen has been added
  • Lexicon Premium Audio System is available on the 2.5T Sport Prestige trim and higher
  • Sport Prestige also includes a wireless phone charger
  • Surround view monitor and head-up display available

Seating options:   The G70 offers seating for 5, although we wouldn't recommend utilizing all 5 seats unless you have children in the back. The front seats have a style that you would expect from a sports car, with bolsters that keep you stable and comfortable. The leatherette and leather are both quality options, so you don't need to upgrade just for better seating materials. That said, it's wise to know which seating features are essential for you. All trims come with heated front seats, while upgrading to the next highest trim provides ventilation as well. All trims have standard power front seats, and the driver gets a 4-way power lumbar support as well as an available seat bolster & cushion extension. Unlike some of the larger Genesis models, the G70 doesn't have any rear seating features like heating or ventilation.

Genesis G70 seating

Seats Recap:

  • G70 can seat 5 people-rear seats are best for smaller passengers
  • Sporty bolstered front seats ensure stability and comfort
  • Driver seat standard with lumbar support and has an available bolster & cushion extension
  • Both leatherette and leather are high-quality choices
  • All trims include heated front seats; the next trim adds ventilation

Cargo and passenger space:   As a compact sedan, the G70 doesn't have a massive amount of rear passenger space and has an ok amount of trunk space. The G70 can handle children and smaller adults, but if you consistently expect larger people in the back, we would suggest bumping up to the G80 or going with an SUV like the GV70. The front passenger will have an abundance of legroom at 42.6 inches, but the rear passengers are at 34.8 inches. Generally speaking, the customers looking at these are using them for commuting and for the fun driving experience, not necessarily for family road trips. The trunk space sits at 10.5 cubic feet, which is enough for 4 or 5 small luggage bags or a couple of sets of golf clubs. This can increase some by dropping the 60/40 split, rear seats down. It's important to consider that most sedans in the compact luxury segment fall into similar layouts.

Cargo & Passenger Recap:

  • G70 is designed for the comfort of front passengers
  • Front passengers get 42.6 inches of legroom
  • Rear passengers have 34.8 inches of legroom
  • Trunk offers 10.5 cubic feet of space
  • Space can be expanded by folding down the rear seats in a 60/40 split

G70: Luxury Sports Sedan

Design updates:   The G70 has had the same exterior styling for a few years at this point, but we don't see that as a bad thing. Don't fix what isn't broken. The G70 showcases distinctive styling with its lower and wider front grille, Two-Line LED Lamp headlights, and sharper lines that define its exterior. The Quad Lamp taillights, a cleanly styled bumper, and the bold "Genesis" lettering on the trunk lid highlight a sporty and minimalist style. Additionally, a lip resembling a rear diffuser improves the aerodynamic profile and contributes to the overall sporty appearance. No matter which trim you choose for the G70, the wheel size will come in at 19 inches, with most trim levels getting sport alloy wheels. While we would love to see some variation to this, the 19s look well suited for the G70. Emphasizing elegant athleticism, the G70 looks how it drives-dynamic. Overall, we believe the G70 has a standout style compared to the rest of the compact luxury sedan class.

Genesis G70 badging

Design Updates Recap:

  • G70 features a low, wide front grille, Two-Line LED Lamp headlights, and sharp lines
  • Offers Quad Lamp taillights, a neatly designed bumper, and the prominent "Genesis" letterings
  • Rear diffuser enhances the aerodynamic profile
  • Wheel size will be 19 inches regardless of the trim level

Standout features:   Exterior features are pretty consistent across most trims of the G70, especially once you get past the base model. If you are looking for the wide sunroof feature, you will have to move up one trim to the 2.5T Sport Prestige. This is actually where we would recommend most people end up anyways, as it also includes an upgraded Dark Chrome Grille with Daylight Opening Trim as well as power-folding mirrors with Genesis logo puddle lamps. All trims come with a hands-free trunk open feature, which we appreciate, as this isn't always seen on sedans. Finally, a power close trunk feature is added to the highest trim, and while this is convenient, we wouldn't recommend going all the way up just for this one option.

Features Recap:

  • Recommend the 2.5T Sport Prestige trim and higher
  • Comes with a wide sunroof feature and dark chrome grille
  • Also includes power-folding mirrors that have Genesis logo puddle lamps.
  • All trims offer a hands-free trunk opening feature
  • Highest trim adds a power close trunk feature

G70 engine options

The G70 has 2 engine options: Which one should you buy?

The G70 offers 2 engine options and can range from fun to drive to exhilarating. While the best way to learn the difference is by test driving them both at your local Genesis dealer, we can at least explain the primary differences.

The 2.5T:   The lower trim levels feature a solid 300-horsepower, 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options. This engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and MacPherson strut front & multi-link rear suspension. A Brembo Braking System is standard on all G70s, which gives you some extra confidence to get after it a little when driving the G70. With 311 lb.-ft. of torque, it delivers ample acceleration, achieving a 0-60 time in the mid-5-second range. Fuel efficiency is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is commendable considering its performance. While this option is plenty of fun to drive, many people in the compact luxury market will be drawn to the upgraded 3.3T engine.

The 3.3T:   While not exactly good fuel efficiency for a compact sedan, the 3.3T is all about dynamic performance, and it certainly delivers. It boasts an exhilarating 365-horsepower, 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 376 lb.-ft. of torque. Just like the 2.5T, this engine offers an RWD and AWD option. The acceleration is definitely in the fast range, with a 0-60 time in the mid-4 seconds. If you're looking for complete optimal performance, we recommend upgrading all the way to the 3.3T Sport Prestige. These models are equipped with electronically controlled suspension and a limited-slip differential, giving you the feeling of control. While not necessary for plenty of people, the drivers that like to push the limits a bit will benefit from these upgrades. The gas mileage stands at 17 city and 23 highway mpg, which, while not fantastic, reflects the overall performance of the engine.

A Genesis dealer's final take on the G70

Overall, the G70 is for a more specific segment of drivers on the road. The G70 is for those that prioritize performance and style, and the G70 most definitely delivers on that. Front passengers will be comfortable with plenty of room and high-quality seating. The tech provides all the features you want from a luxury sedan while staying at a good price point. Finally, the design is one of our favorites from Genesis. We know it really stands out in the search for a compact luxury sedan. The G70 shines as a sedan meant for fun and a more dynamic option for a daily commuter. If you prioritize having multiple full-size passengers, Genesis has plenty of other great models that fit.
